Schizophrenia is a psychotic condition, often overlooked which can bring on profound changes in one’s interpretation of reality. It’s easily misdiagnosed, yet is a serious mental illness that’s often misunderstood, and stigmatized as being crazy or mad. One symptom is a disturbed mental activity in sufferers with frequent switches in their emotions and activity. Difficulties also arise in their ability to evaluate reality and surroundings. This makes life unbearable not only for themselves but for family and loved ones.
Schizophrenia occurs when there is an imbalance between chemical compounds that send signals to the brain. This, in turn, causes a sufferer’s view of reality to become nonsensical, unreal, and distorted and can be both auditory and visual or both. Unfortunately, science has yet to clarify exactly why this mental imbalance manifests.
Schizophrenia embodies spouts of psychosis (losing touch with real-life) occurring in-between dulled states of emotion and blankness. psychosis symptoms include:
•Delirium – reduced awareness of surroundings
• Distorted mental activity
• Delusions – mainly in the form of hearing voices
Irritability, agitation, anxiety, depression, and overactivity are also commonly present. Social interaction is also regarded as a problem symptom and can affect normal everyday life.
How CBD can help with Psychosis
CBD for Schizophrenia and Psychosis
Cannabidiol and its ability to ease psychosis symptoms were recently highlighted in new brain imaging research. It revealed that CBD can cut the symptoms by “resetting” brain activeness in three different areas.
The three brain areas studied were the striatum, midbrain, and the medial temporal cortex. A group of 33 psychosis patients with half given 600mg of CBD and the other half an identical placebo. The entire group was then set a memory test aimed at the three brain areas studied.
An MRI scanned the entire group of brains. The brains of those who consumed CBD displayed much lower abnormalities in comparison with the placebo group. Researchers suggested that this result could be a breakthrough in the development of new medicines. These would work very differently from current antipsychotics.
Using CBD for Schizophrenia and Psychosis
It must be noted that CBD is by no means a cure for this illness and can only alleviate symptoms. It’s advised not to combine CBD with a patient’s long term antipsychotic drugs, but only as an alternative therapy. Using CBD in the early stages of schizophrenia with proper dosing will show better results. Whereas in long-term sufferers, it can take a much longer period to see an outcome.
CBD for Schizophrenia and Psychosis – Dosing

Without a shadow of a doubt, CBD can help with Schizophrenia and Psychosis symptoms. I say this because this is a subject close to home for me due to my own mother being a sufferer for over 40 years. Back in the day early symptoms went unnoticed and left unchecked so her condition slowly but surely became worse. Being a child back then I was ignorant and powerless of my mother’s deteriorating condition. Only noticing spouts of unusual behavior as I grew. Having only been on the CBD scene for 5 years, I only recently started introducing it to my mum and have seen a slow improvement in symptoms. This said, the longevity of her untreated illness almost definitely impacts the outcome 🙁
